The race was tight for No. 1 in college football recruiting rankings for the Class of 2022 entering Wednesday, but Texas A&M sat firmly in the driver’s seat and cruised to that designation on national signing day. Thanks to the commitment of five-star defensive lineman Shemar Stewart, the Aggies locked up not only the highest-ranked class this cycle, but also the highest-rated group of all time.

Stewart’s commitment gave Texas A&M seven five-star commitments in this class as coach Jimbo Fisher finally plans to get his program over the hump, not only in the SEC but also in the national race with a berth in the college football playoffs. It was a stunning achievement for the Aggies, but not entirely unexpected given the way they’ve recruited throughout this cycle.

Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Texas rounded out the top five as the day exited. Meanwhile, major programs with new coaches like Florida, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma and USC were trying to shut down their transition classes in force. Of that group, only the Sooners entered the day in the top 10.

Check out the top 10 classes below, and be sure to click the link at the end of the table to see where your team ranks if they don’t make the top 10. There are still a few commitments that will trickle down. at the end of the week, so some fluctuation is still possible.
