Chelsea could make a sensational offer to sign Leicester striker Jamie Vardy late in the window if Kai Havertz suffers an injury, transfer insider claims DeanJones.
Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku, the Germany international is Thomas Tuchel’s only recognized number nine heading into the new season with Chelsea in desperate need of reinforcements.
What’s the latest on Chelsea?
Despite the arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling, the start of Todd Boehly’s reign as Chelsea owner was difficult, with Jules Kounde and Raphinha missing.
To add to the American’s frustrations, the Stamford Bridge side were also unlucky in their search to provide cover and competition for Havertz up front.
According christian falkChelsea are ‘very interested’ in signing Harry Kane, although a move to London looks incredibly unlikely, with Tottenham expected offer a new contract to the English captain.
Chelsea have also missed out on Robert Lewandowski, who opted to join Barcelona, with his options looking extremely limited heading into the final month of the transfer window.
But Jones believes that, if their crisis drags on into August, they could launch an ambitious bid to bring Vardy to west London.
What did Jones say about Vardy?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “There are no offers for Vardy yet, but you can’t rule out someone suffering from a striker crisis.
“Let’s say Havertz is down with an injury, they could make an offer for someone like Jamie Vardy in the last week of the window.”
Would Vardy leave Chelsea for Leicester?
Despite turning 36 next January, Vardy has continued to prove himself as one of English football’s deadliest strikers.
In each of the last five Premier League seasons he has scored at least 15 goals, his tally in the competition being 133putting it on 14th on the all time list.
However, heading into the final years of his career, it’s hard to imagine Vardy dropping everything at Leicester to potentially become a squad player at Chelsea.
Vardy spent the majority of his time at the Foxes as first-choice, and while a move to Stamford Bridge would improve his chances of challenging for major honors and allow him to play in the Champions League again, it would be a huge shock to see the old English astrological sign of the Blues.
