Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ready for Man City to ‘strike back’ in Premier League shock

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is ready for Manchester City to “strike back” when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Sunday following the 2-0 loss to PSG in the Champions League.

City fell to defeat at Parc des Princes in Paris following goals from Lionel Messi and former Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

It happened as Liverpool took control of Group B as they lost 5-1 to Porto.

And after that game, Klopp was asked about the upcoming clash against City, but said his side would “need a lot more than just a boost”.

Klopp told BT Sport: “Always help [momentum] but against City it doesn’t help at all, we need a lot more than momentum and we need to play better than tonight, but it’s clear anyway.

“It will be a different game, I have only heard the result of the PSG-City game now, so City will and will want to retaliate.

“We’re back home after a few games without our home crowd, so let’s give it away.”

Liverpool will be without influential midfielder Thiago Alcantara for his Premier League clash, while Klopp has also said Trent Alexander-Arnold is uncertain following a groin injury.

Naby Keita is another injury doubt for the Reds ahead of the title rivals clash.

Liverpool and City currently sit first and second in the Premier League table in preparation for the game, with the Reds one point ahead.

City lost 1-0 to Chelsea last weekend as Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal of the game after 53 minutes when he managed a pass from Joao Cancelo into the box and his low shot deflected slightly en route towards the Chelsea Net, leaving no chance for Edouard Mendy.

The result ended the Blues’ unbeaten start in the league and put City ahead of them in the standings on goal difference – with the champions now also tied on points with Man United, Everton and Brighton.
