BETHLEEM, Pennsylvania – West Point Army sophomore Georgia Jones and Navy junior Brett Brady were selected as the 2021 Women’s and Men’s Patriot League College Athlete of the Year of the Year, respectively, when the League office announced the honors on Monday.

Jones and Brady were also selected for the first time to the seven-member teams of the Academic League of Male and Female Patriots.

Six male and female cross-country student-athletes have won Academic Patriots League honors for the second time, including the Army West Point Marshall Beatty (Philosophy, 3.659 GPA) the Men’s League individual champion and the reigning varsity athlete of the year. Lafayette junior Robert Oehrlein (mechanical engineering, 3.89 GPA) is two-time All-League and two-time Academic All-League selection, while graduate student Lehigh Seth Slavin (mechanical engineering, 4.0 graduate, 3.96 undergraduate GPA) was an All-League winner in 2019.

Boston University junior Andrea Claeson (public relations, 3.81 GPA), the reigning varsity cross country athlete of the year, is also a two-time selection in the league after finishing third in this season’s championship. Colgate senior Sophia Manners (historic, 3.87 GPA) won the league’s academic honors for the second consecutive season, while Boston University graduate student Corinne Batsu (applied business analysis, 3, 61 GPA) won Academic Team Honors after being part of the team in 2019.

To be eligible for the College Athlete of the Year award and the Patriots Academic League team, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.20 and be a rookie or a key player. in his sport. Freshmen or first year students at their school are not eligible for the honor.

* This season Brady placed first in the Army-Navy Star Meet and was recognized as the Patriot League Cross Country Runner of the Week after finishing 26th out of 357 runners at the Paul Short Run.
* Brady interned at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in the summer of 2021.

2021 Patriot League Female Cross Country Scholar of the Year

* Jones was named top runner in the 2021 Patriot League women’s cross-country competition, after winning the individual title with a 6K time of 21: 03.9.
* The second year international business student has a GPA of 3.952 and ranks in the top 10 percent of her class at West Point.
* The reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year is a two-time Patriot League women’s cross country runner after breaking the Army West Point 5K record in the fall season.
* Jones is also a tutor at the Center for Enhanced Performance (CEP) at West Point and is College Reading & Learning (CRLA) certified in addition to providing physics tutoring.

Eleven winners from all leagues form academic teams

Six of the seven members of the Women’s Cross Country Academic All-Patriot League team have won All-League honors after the 2021 championship, highlighted by Jones. Batsu, Claeson and Holy Cross junior Eve Feuerbach (interdisciplinary studies, 3.63 GPA) and Navy junior Elizabeth Sullivan (chemistry, 3.91 GPA) were all First Team All-Patriot League finishers. Navy elder Maddie Warrender (Honors in English, 3.97 GPA) was a second-team All-League selection.

On the men’s side, five of the seven academy team recipients made it to the All-League squad following the 2021 championships. Beatty and Brady highlight the squad, along with the other first-team winners, senior Navy officers, John Bowers (specializing in ocean engineering, 3.98 GPA) and Ashwin Briggs (operations research, 3.82 GPA). Oehrlein made the second team after the championship.

Eight student-athletes are part of the academic team for the first time

Brady and Jones, the Male and Female College Athlete of the Year recipients highlight a list of eight student-athletes who made their first All-Patriot League academic cross-country team in 2021. On the side of the men’s, Loyola Maryland senior Nathan Galloway (English Honors and World Studies, 3,908 GPA) was joined by Bowers and Briggs as the cross-country selections for the first time. On the women’s side, Feuerbach, Sullivan and Warrender joined Jones as selections for the first time.
