Richard Keys leads outrage after Marcus Rashford was named Premier League Player of the Month

‘They’re laughing’: Fans stunned after Marcus Rashford was named Premier League Player of the Month – despite not even winning Man United’s in-house award – with some supporters claiming Christian Eriksen was ‘robbed “

  • Marcus Rashford has been named Premier League Player of the Month for September
  • The Manchester United striker has only played twice but has scored and assisted twice
  • However, the club awarded their own player of the month award to Christian Eriksen

Marcus Rashford has been handed the Premier League Player of the Month award for September despite only playing twice, leaving several fans baffled.

The England striker scored twice and assisted two more in September, and beat other nominees like Philip Billing, Kevin De Bruyne, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Jacob Ramsey and Alex Iwobi for the award.

But United fans were left in turmoil after their own club were named Christian Eriksen Player of the Month after a string of strong performances were capped by a win over Arsenal last time out.

A number of fans took to Twitter to point out the lack of consistency, wondering how Rashford could be the best in the league, but not his club’s.

One fan wrote: ‘Eriksen won United’s POTM but Rashford wins it? Iwobi was robbed, he ran games from start to finish in September.

Another added: “It’s crazy how Eriksen wins the club POTM award but Rashford wins the Premier League one.”

A third echoed the sentiment with the simple statement: “Not even United Player of the Month.”

And a fourth fan honed in on the Danish midfielder, writing: ‘Eriksen flew’.

And there are those who wonder why he was given to Rashford in the first place, regardless of Eriksen’s form this season, ahead of Erling Haaland who already has ten goals to his name.

An outraged football fan wrote: ‘Marcus Rashford won EPL player of the month ahead of Haaland? Nbs day flight.’

A second then asked how De Bruyne never won the award, writing: “Marcus Rashford beat Kevin De Bruyne to the #PL September POTM award.

“De Bruyne still hasn’t won the award.”

And beIN Sports presenter Richard Keys added: “Marcus Rashford – PoM – for scoring 2 goals and registering 2 assists? They laugh.

But for the many who wondered why he wasn’t given to Eriksen, many also praised the England striker, noting that he has started to return to his best form of late.

One Twitter user clearly supported the award, writing: “Yes Marcus Rashford, happy for you boy…

“Hope this boosts your confidence… Now let’s get in shape and smash the city defence.”

A second support wrote: ‘Rashford redemption season is here! I hope Martial will be fit, and they would both do wonders in PL this season.

And a third suggested the best was yet to come adding: “So delighted to see Marcus Rashford win the POTM for September.”

“Definitely deserved with his two goals and two assists in two games and a good sign of his confidence returning to his best form.”

Yet there are still those who wonder why he was given to Rashford in the first place, regardless of Eriksen’s form this season, ahead of Erling Haaland who already has ten goals to his name.
