Sprint Football kicks off 2022 season at Chestnut Hill

Navy and Chestnut Hill kick off at 7:00 p.m. Friday night.




ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy Sprint Football Team opens the 2022 season on the road as the Midshipmen travel to AA Garthwaite Stadium in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania to take on Chestnut Hill. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, and live video will be available.

2022 Team Captains

Navy Sprint Football Head Coach Major Alfonso Meidus, USMC announced that the elderly Jordan Richard (Marietta, Georgia) and Alex Tota (Kansas City, Kansas) will serve as team captains for the 2022 campaign. Richard will serve as defensive captain, while Totta will lead the offense.

All Time Series

The game between Chestnut Hill and Navy will mark the sixth meeting between the two teams. The Midshipmen hold an all-time record of 5-0 against the Griffins. Navy shut out Chestnut Hill three times in the series, including a 52-0 win over the Griffins last season.

Review of the 2021 season

Navy ended its undefeated season with a win over Army (W, 9-7) to capture the 2021 Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) championship. The win gave the Navy its 38th conference championship and 31st all-time title. It was the first CSFL championship for the Midshipmen since 2018, when the Navy beat the Army, 24-10. The Mids finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record, including a 3-0 record in the South Division. It’s the 26th time Navy has gone undefeated this season, and the first time since 2014.

Navy had 15 different players who earned 16 All-CSFL honors with Adam Weissenfels (’22) being named CSFL Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Weissenfels was the 2021 Most Valuable Player. The MVP was chosen by a vote of league coaches, who selected from among the conference’s major award winners.

The Midshipmen had six players totaling seven All-CSFL First Team honors, while five players were named to the Second Team. Additionally, four contenders received honorable mentions.
