De Ligt wants to move to England

Matthijs de Ligt is considering a move to the Premier League, although Juventus have offered the centre-back a new long-term deal.

De Ligt, 22, joined Juventus from Ajax in a £67.5million deal three years ago and played 117 games for the Italian giants, helping them win the title of Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana. He is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

The Dutch international, who helped Erik ten Hag’s Ajax to a league and cup double in 2018-19, has won numerous individual honors during his blossoming career. He was named Golden Boy in 2018 and in the FIFA World XI the following year.

De Ligt has just two years left on his existing contract and Juventus are desperate to keep him. But, according to Corriere dello Sportthe talented player decided he wanted to move to the Premier League and told his current club during the showdown talks.

Chelsea and Manchester United are both reportedly interested in signing De Ligt, but his release clause – estimated at €115m (£98.8m) – could put them off. The player’s representatives are believed to want that figure to drop to €80m (£68.7m).
