ARSENAL GUNNING FOR WHIT

Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Ben White, with reports they have advanced talks with Brighton over the potential signing.

Sky Sports News reports that Arsenal are continuing talks, with a deal worth more than £ 50million (AU $ 92million) expected to be put on the table.

It comes after Arsenal’s £ 40million (AU $ 73million) offer for White was reportedly rejected last week.

It is understood that personal conditions will not be an issue and that the structure of the payments is the main stumbling block in reaching a deal.

White was a late recall from the England squad for Euro 2020 after an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth provided further details on Friday morning.

“This is great news for Arsenal. You will recall that last week we reported that an offer of around £ 40million was rejected by Brighton for White, but they had further discussions and the negotiations are continuing, ”he said.

“They are at a very positive stage, I am told on a deal that could be worth more than £ 50million.

“The negotiations are centered on the structure of the payments, but personal conditions are not seen as an issue and I have been told that all parties are ‘cautiously optimistic’ that a deal can be reached.”

He then revealed that the negotiations with the Whites would have a ripple effect on two players already at Arsenal.

“A few players at Arsenal could be affected,” he said.

“Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has been on loan for the past two seasons, is set to be loaned to Stuttgart with a purchase obligation depending on certain conditions – essentially their performance in next season.

“The other player that could have an impact is William Saliba, who joined Arsenal from St Etienne in the summer of 2019. My information is that by the start of the preseason Saliba will have had talks with the Arsenal hierarchy to discuss whether it is better to stay at the club next season, to go out on loan or to leave Arsenal for good.

“If the Whites join, there will be a lot of players ahead of him, so there will be discussions on how best to serve the player. He could go down in the hierarchy.

MAN UTD RAMP UP POGBA, SANCHO TALKS

Elsewhere, there have been two major developments at Old Trafford.

The first concerns the future of Paul Pogba, whose current contract with Manchester United expires in June 2022.

United are keen to keep him and are engaged in ongoing talks with Pogba’s representatives over a new deal.

The Red Devils could fight to keep the France international with a number of clubs expected to follow developments closely.

At present, United have yet to receive an official offer from a rival.

Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola said in December that the midfielder was “unhappy” and “needed a change of scenery”, multiplying suggestions he would leave United in the current summer transfer window.

Pogba’s future is clearly a big talking point, with Sky Sport Italia even polling the United star on whether his new Euro 2020 haircut was any clue to a move from Juventus.

“Is black and white hair a signal for the future? I expected this question, ”he said.

“There is no future now, only the European Championship. Hair changes often.

In other news at Old Trafford, United are said to be in advanced negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

United’s latest offer was widely estimated at £ 75million, which comes close to Dortmund’s wishes.

Dortmund, however, reportedly want the majority of the fee to be paid up front and want a final call made on the potential transfer before July 23, when the team attend preseason training camp.

Sancho is not the only target in United’s sights, but transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Premier League giants are also considering two La Liga defenders.

“Manchester United are still working on [Jadon] Sancho’s deal, but will also focus on a new center-back this summer, ”Romano tweeted.

“Raphaël Varane, already on the list for months. Manchester United are also aware of a release clause in Pau Torres’ contract [€65m ($77.5 million) this summer and not €50 million ($59.6 million)]. “

A NEW MAIN COMPETITOR FOR SPURS GIG?

Meanwhile, former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is now Tottenham’s main contender for the title of new manager.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho in April and have been looking for a new coach ever since.

Paulo Fonseca was under consideration, but talks ended last week as any chance of Gennaro Gattuso landing the job faded after fan protests.

Nuno has now emerged as the likely option to take over despite the Spurs board previously insisting he was not in the running.

The 47-year-old left Wolves in May after four years at the helm.
